In a Buddhist scriptures building, there is a Zen monk never read the scriptures and he just sit in meditation everyday.
Therefore, the manager of the Buddhist scriptures building asked the Zen monk,” Why you sit in meditation everyday without reading the scriptures?”
The Zen monk answered frankly,” I am an illiterate.”
The manager said,”Why do not you consult someone?”
The Zen monk asked in reply, “Who may I consult?”
The manager said generously, “I can consult for you!”
The Zen monk stood up, saluted, put his palms together and asked, “How should I call these actions?”
After he asked the question, the manager have nothing to say in reply, because these, the actions that the Zen monk have done, means soul. However what is soul actually?

Zen does not depend upon words and letters because the words and letters can not convey the true feature of the invariable principle and nature.
Although the zenners in the building which store up the scripture never read the scripture , they can still truly practice Buddhist and just sit in meditation everyday.
Zen is not limited in the words and letters. If we study hard and link up the principle of the scripture , we can also grasp thoroughly the true feature.

In an attic of Buddhist literature, there is a Zen inside. He zazens every day. Thereupon, a manager of the attic asked:” why you zazen day after day, but don’t read Buddhist scriptures?”

The Zen replied honestly:” It’s because I am an illiterate.”

The manager said:” Who don’t you come to somebody for advice? ”

The Zen asked:” Who I ask for advice?”

The manager said unreservedly:” You can ask me!”

The Zen rise, bow, place the two palms together, and then asked, “Could you tell me what this action means?”

The manager was speechless by the Zen’s asking because “the action” means self-nature. What on earth does this action mean?

Zen doesn’t create language and characters. They can’t express the true feature of the nature. Although the Zen doesn’t read Buddhist scriptures, they can practice honestly. They only zazen everyday. Meditation is beyond words. As long as you can think it through, you will be able to realize what it really is.

Zen did not found words and language, because words and language can not express the true of humanity. Although the Zen who is in sutra depository doesn’t read sutra, he can practice Buddhist teaching honestly and only care about za-zen every day. Zen isn’t limited to writing. Study it hard and digest it, and you also can grasp the original meaning.

A Zen doesn’t need a language or a word because words cannot express what self-nature real is.The Zen who is in the sutra building can honestly practice Buddhist even though he doesn’t read the sutra and only focus on sitting in meditation everyday. We just need to practice seriously and try to understand then we can also realize the truth because Zen is not limited in words.

Zen don’t develop languages and words because they can’t express the original implication. Although the Zen monk in the scriptorium never read the scriptures, he
lived up to practice moral teachings and sat in meditation everyday. Zen is not just limited by words, you will digest its spirit by comprehending it thoroughly.
